BB-455
Modular Multi-Channel Gas Detection Controller
A rack-based gas detection controller for industrial and commercial facilities. Configure 1-9 independent detection channels by inserting Receiver Modules into a standard 5-slot or 10-slot frame. Add the optional Controller Module to automate gas shut-off valve operation on alarm.
Auto AC ↔ Battery backup - continuous monitoring during power failure
Optional BC-530/540/550 Controller Module drives gas shut-off valves on alarm
1:1 Detector Head ↔ Receiver Module pairing - one channel per slot
Custom 20-slot / 35-slot racks available on order for large-scale facilities
System Specifications
3-Module Architecture
Every BB-455 is assembled from three module types. The Power and Receiver Modules are included in all configurations. The Controller Module is added only when automatic shut-off valve operation is required.
Power Module
- Primary AC 16V input
- Backup: DC 12V / 1,300mAh Ni-Cd battery
- Automatic primary ↔ battery switchover
- Audible alarm buzzer output
- Supplies power to all Receiver Modules
Receiver Module
- Receives 4-20 mA signal from Detector Head
- One module = one detection channel (1:1 rule)
- Input: DC 12-16V from Power Module
- Per-channel LED alarm indication
- Dry contact output: NO / NC
Controller Module
- Drives gas shut-off valve on alarm
- Types: BC-530 (12V) / BC-540 (24V) / BC-550 (90V)
- Select type to match valve rated voltage
- Interlocked with BB-455 alarm system
- Occupies one slot within the rack
Controller Module Types
All three types are functionally identical. The only difference is the output voltage - select the type that matches the rated voltage of your connected gas shut-off valve.
For small-diameter residential and light commercial gas shut-off valves.
Selection rule: Match the Controller Module type to the rated voltage and current capacity of the connected gas shut-off valve. Mismatched specifications may cause valve malfunction or damage.
17 Standard Configurations
BB-455-1 through BB-455-9 and BB-455-1C through BB-455-8C are channel-count configurations of the same platform - not separate products.
All models include Detector Head(s) paired 1:1 with Receiver Modules. Controller Module type (BC-530 / BC-540 / BC-550) ordered separately.
Custom-Order Racks
For facilities requiring more than 9 channels, custom rack configurations are available on order. Enclosure dimensions and pricing are determined by application requirements.
20-Slot Rack
Dual-row 10-slot panel for medium-scale facilities.
35-Slot Rack
Floor-standing tall cabinet for large industrial sites.
Safety Warnings
The Power Module requires AC 16V input. Incorrect voltage or DC power will permanently damage the module.
All wiring - Detector Head, Controller Module, and valve terminals - must be performed by a licensed electrician or certified gas technician with all power isolated.
Never connect more than one Detector Head to a single Receiver Module. Violation will result in incorrect or failed alarm operation.
Do not disassemble or modify any module. This disrupts factory calibration and voids the product warranty.
Verify the Controller Module type (BC-530 / BC-540 / BC-550) matches the valve's rated voltage and capacity before installation.
Immediately evacuate all personnel → close manual gas shut-off valve → ventilate the area → eliminate ignition sources → contact gas supplier.
Detector Heads
Each Receiver Module pairs 1:1 with one Detector Head. Choose the head type based on your installation environment.

Non-Threaded Type
Standard wall-mount sensor head for general indoor installation. Mounts on flat surfaces near potential gas leak points. Pairs 1:1 with any BB-455 Receiver Module.
- Indoor wall surface
- Adjacent to gas appliances
- Under ventilation openings

Threaded Type
Threaded sensor head for installation adjacent to gas supply piping or inside weatherproof conduit enclosures. Same 4-20 mA output, enhanced mechanical protection.
- Near gas supply piping
- Weatherproof / outdoor enclosures
- Industrial conduit installations
1:1 Pairing Rule: Every Receiver Module must be paired with exactly one Detector Head. Mixing head types within the same frame is allowed - e.g., non-threaded heads for indoor zones and threaded heads for piping-adjacent zones.
